They are lying to us!

I live in a society that paints a picture that life is all about being happy! You always hear,"if it makes you happy, then it's fine".But what makes you happy is rarely for your own benefit and it might hurt God.The Christian is far more different than the normal person who doesn't have a personal relationship with God.It's a race,it's about gaining victory over sin and it's about leading others to the Source of life-God.It's about leading others to see that there's more to life.God is drawing us to Him and it is His desire to have a relationship with each individual,to help each individual to be like Him as the Creator and at the end of it all,to live eternally with Him.

But sadly we live in a society where we are constantly bombarded with self-centered living.A life that revolves around ourselves, our wants, our needs. We live in a society that says we should fight for what we want, even at the expense of the other person. But Christ is our perfect example. Not once did He live for Himself nor did he seek to always gain but He gave,up to the point of giving Himself.

And he calls us to do the same,he is calling us to self-denial.He is showing that life of joy doesn't revolve around going to the cinema to watch the last movie or spending thousands on new clothes or having the coolest boyfriend;but it is centered on serving others. On denying ourselves that which we want so that others may be benefitted.

We are called to a higher standard-we are called to be God's hands and feet. The world is dying, the world is full of hopeless, struggling souls and God wants us to spread his love and bring hope to these souls.Isn't that something worth more living for?Isn't that much more than the attention, the likes and the applause?

When all is said and done, when you have lived your life, would you look back and be glad that you've added value to someone's life? Will you be glad that you have helped encourage the weary? With all that you cherish be worth it at the end of the day or will you look back and regret for having believed that life is all about you?

We are NOT called to seek happiness, popularity, fame or love! The first thing we are called to seek is the kingdom of God and His righteousness, for this will ensure we fulfill God's purpose for our lives. But sadly,we still haven't denied ourselves and we want the "that will be added unto us" before God.But until we stop consulting broken cisterns and seek and pursue God,we will forever feel the void and nothing in life will fulfill. We'll be forever be slaves to fashion, movies, relationships and man's opinions UNTIL we put God first. And when God is put in his rightful place-before all, there is unspeakable joy!

Lies that are common in this day and age:

Some time during the week I listened to a sermon by Nancy DeMoss and it was on point-Biblically.It got me thinking about lies told in this day and age.The things about these lies is:they are subliminal,we don't really give them thought, but we somehow believe them.

These are some of them:

"Education is everything"-Not really,domestic training is...Plus some have education,but they aren't employed
"Males and Females are the same"-We aren't,we are 2 different individuals, created to fulfill distinct roles
"I was born this way, can't change who I am"-Partially true, only God can change us as we co-operate with Him.You can change, even your temper, mood swings can!
"Men are all the same"-False!There are good,God-fearing men out there.
"Your worth is found in what you have/physical attributes"-Only found in Jesus, who died for us.
"He/she Completes me"-How can another broken individual complete you?Only the Maker an complete each one of us.
"If it feels good,it must be right"-Feelings can never determine what is right/wrong,God's word does
"It's my life"-It's imparted from God,so it's borrowed from Him.

What does God say about lying?

"Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight."~Proverbs 12:22
There's been a lot of debate around lying, especially among Christians. Some say it's okay to lie as long as it is going to benefit others. And they often quote Rahab's story to justify the means.Although what she did was good,I doubt that the lying was.
One thing we are to understand is:God is too powerful and great and He does not need assistance from us.I believe even if Rahab hadn't intervened God would have come through for the spies.Remember the story of Lot?When the men from Sodom wanted to lay with the angels,God blinded them!Couldn't he have done the same in this case?
As for Rahab,we can excuse her because she wasn't a Christian-she was a prostitute but she risked her own life for these men,and I believe this all had to do with her salvation. But that's just MY opinion!
But look at what happened when Abraham lied about Sarah being her sister? What about Jacob who lied and got the blessings from His father? In the end he had to run away from home, all because he and her mother couldn't wait for God.
I personally believe we lie because we do not trust God enough.I remeber there was an instant someone had suggested that I lie about my address so that I can get the Western Cape Health bursary and I refused! At that point,I wasn't even sure if I'd get NSFAS.
A month later,NSFAS accepted me and I also got the bursary. This impressed upon my mind that we need not to lie but ONLY to trust!

'SPEAKING THE TRUTH IS ABNORMAL'

"The Lord detests lying lips,
but he delights in people who are trustworthy."~Proverbs 12 : 22

"Lying lips are an abomination to Him. He declares that into the holy city “there shall in no wise enter ... any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie.” Let truth telling be held with no loose hand or uncertain grasp. Let it become a part of the life. Playing fast and loose with truth, and dissembling to suit one’s own selfish plans, means shipwreck of faith.... He who utters untruths sells his soul in a cheap market. His falsehoods may seem to serve in emergencies; he may thus seem to make business advancement that he could not gain by fair dealing; but he finally reaches the place where he can trust no one. Himself a falsifier, he has no confidence in the word of others."~My life today,p.331.

Even if it's seems small or it's for a good cause,God disapproves of lying!

Thankful Wednesday: the good men that I cross paths with

I love my job because I get to meet people from different walks of life. There's been one elderly man who has become a father figure to...
